The aluminum rails for the handles are incredibly weak. The first time using the bag they had heavy damage after one flight. The main zipper constantly gets hung up on what is in the bag, the bag needs some materials to keep the zipper away from the clothes. You can use the bag never going over 3/4 full to prevent this.
I use this backpack since 2017, wear it everyday, in every condition and it is my favourite bag of all time. Don't waste you time trying other brands. I also switched this bag for a new one three years ago and the new one is as good as the old one. I hope Ortlieb will continue making this model, it's the best. In love with the quality, the durability, the style, the comfort, everything. I also have the ortlieb paniers for my bike and they are just as durable.
no wonder why there are spare parts,.. it breaks all the time, i had to replace every plastic parts of almost all my panniers.
The promise is good, carry essencial small items safely, under your view ! but the reality is that the soft bag, with no support structure in the back of it, just hangs skewed in the handle bar, looking awful like a pillow in the front of the bike! Also the hard plastic to help the fold is too wide, consequently one can fold only half a turn making the bag even smaller than it seems! Disappointed, I would like to return it, and WOULD APPRECIATE BEING CONTACTED BY ORTLIEB ON RESPECT TO THIS! I have two panniers and they are very good, well engineered, but the bag is terrible!
I'm very disappointed in this product. There's hardware missing and there's a small glob of what is probably glue marring the cover. Moreover, the hardware was not enclosed, just strewn in the bottom of the bag, there were two allen keys and there were no instructions, leading me to suspect that you sent me a customer return, not the real deal which I paid $131 for. Then when I asked for the missing hardware I was told to return it instead. Just wow! Bought a bag from MEC instead.
After 7 years of ownership and 1 year of daily full time use, one latch on one clip on one bag finally broke. I ordered 2 sets to fully replace them all and they slid on easily, came with the rail size adapters and appear to be the same construction as the original. I am very glad I could replace the wearable component without needing a whole new bag.
Note the picture on this product is for the handle version which is not what it is in the description and I wish I paid more attention ordering as this is the adjustable handle version and looks worse but is functionally the same. As the handles were in good shape I just swapped the band by taking out some screws, very easy process.
Fantastic product. Ortlieb is the way to go for a waterproof bag with ease of packing and easy attachment to seat post. And the bag is very light.
Build quality is fantastic. The closure is great, easily adjustable, and far more durable than a plastic clip. The pads along the back help prevent irregular shaped objects from pushing into your back and the small side zip pouch is great for storing your id or other small items so that you don't need to empty the pack to get at it. The removable laptop sleave adds to its versatility. I've been using it for weeks with zero complains. Would highly recommend.

The 3.1 system really gets in the way of other pannier bags attachment systems like the 2.1. I've got a couple of back roller XL plus and they're not really compatible. To be clear, that's after following the instructions and adjusting the pannier bags for an hour.
It's really bad because it makes it a pain everytime I attach the bags to the rack.
I think I'll end up using a dremel to cut out the extra bits of the 3.1 system so they don't get in the way.
Don't buy it with a 2.1 bag or any other brand bag.
Works as expected. Honestly just insanely impressed that Ortlieb keeps supporting old products. I bought my panniers in 2016, and was so happy I could get replacement buckles so easily, especially in a time where everything is so disposable and no one really offers long term product support.
Was a little tricky to install, but I did get there eventually. You will need a torx t15 driver to remove the screw. Now that they are installed I'm happy with them
I own many Ortlieb bike bags, and bought this one. I'm happy with the quality of everything except the Velcro. It got loose after very little use. It takes a lot of massaging to get it to stick properly. I would choose proper clips next time.
This is the perfect bag for my daily commute, nice fit, great quality. Ample space with the 29l l version.
Purchased the stay adapter for my conversion project of a vintage road bike into a gravel expedition.
Took my time and after prepping one of the attachment rings I realized I needed to tweak the other three to match so that non of the metal band was left exposed once the contact point unit was attached.
If you take your time and follow the more than adequate instructions, the end result is very good.
I am very pleased and would recommend this product. Some patience and thoughtfulness is required.

This is the size hook that came with your bag. Easy to use/replace and install. I fixed my bag without needing an instruction manual and simply needing the right torx head for a screwdriver. Super happy that Ortlieb supplies these parts; the saccoche itself was sheared off of my rack at the hooks in a near collision with a dump truck. The bag itself ended up pinned between the truck body and wheel. There was minor damage to a pump I had inside the bag, and some of the reflector was scraped off but otherwise the bag is dusty but intact. Replacing the hooks and mounting rail left me with an almost good as new rear bag. Amazing. I’m a world where most companies would you make you replace both bags, it’s refreshing to be able to repair instead, especially as a cyclist attempting to be conscientious about waste and etc.
Almost impossible to get water through this. Had to bite it hard to move the stopper and try to drink at the same time. Instructions not at all clear.
Easy install and removal. Love the easy option to ride without a rack. So convenient and attractive with its slim line look. Ortlieb, you’ve done it again!
It was a bit expensive, but it was nice and solid. I found a video on YouTube to help me install and it was super easy. I might get a second one for my other bike and I can then easily transfer the bag. My only complaint is that the bag should have been included in the initial purchase.
Great design which made it easy to install without restitching the pannier. Just cut off the broken clip, slide on the new clip and close the clasp! It would be nice to not have to pay such a high shipping price on a small piece.
