I recently bought two QL3.1 sets to install on my bike. Overall, I'm happy with the system. But one QL3.1 set was missing one 10/14 spacer (an extra 8/12 was included). This meant that I had to over-tighten one mounting point.
My bike has M5 eyelets, so I thought I was good. Problem is the eyelets were slightly recessed, so I needed to order some spacers and longer bolts. Ordered these, but Google gave me the wrong length of bolt, so when I went to put the rack on, the weight couldn't hold, and the eyelets on my bike were stripped (not Ortlieb's fault but still very disappointing).
So then I ordered the seat stay mounting kit. Instructions were a bit baffling at first, for someone admiteddly not super technical.
After about 2 hours of fussing with the rubber shields, misreading the 1cm of space on the instructions, melting plastic with flame, cutting metal strips to fit (I don't have good metal shears so after the first cut my wire cutters were dull, I finally was able to get the pegs mounted to the bike securely, so I could now install the rack.
And as soon as I did that, I realized that the clasp would not secure, no matter how much I tightened it, it just hung loose and provided almost no pressure to hold the rack in place.
After ordering all types of parts, wrecking my bike and my tools, and spending hours trying to decipher the instructions and watching the videos over and over, I am left frustrated with a couple of pegs but no rack on my bike to use for my long commute days.
This is a very poor product.
Using a thru axle, it does not fit a 29 inch wheel. Less than 5mm clearance. “Limited support for 29 inch” must mean with under spec clearance. The guide says to have minimum 20 mm clearance.
I love my Ortlieb Panniers and Quick Rack - Not sure I love the new closure that involves the shoulder strap - the old closure was so quick, and the shoulder strap doesn't always provide the same level of solid closure - otherwise, this is a fantastic product!
After three weeks of gentle bicycle touring in the Netherlands and Germany with the Gravel Pack pair as front panniers I have no complaints. We had a lot of rain. They are definitely waterproof. The straps and clips are less versatile than Ortliebs regular offerings but they are strong and work perfectly. Connection to the bike was fine. I had no issues, although they rattle on rough surfaces. Off roaders might want to strap them on a little tighter than I needed to.
This has been one of the biggest disappointments I've ever spent money on. I purchased this bag expecting premium quality, but what I received was an overpriced piece of junk backed by appalling customer service.
The rails are made from incredibly soft, flimsy material and damage far too easily during normal travel. After just a single trip, the internal bag was already falling apart because of poor workmanship. A premium travel bag shouldn't begin failing after one use.
When I contacted customer service, I was told that because I live far from Germany, a replacement would take time. That excuse might have been acceptable for a few weeks—but nine months later, I'm still waiting. Nine months of excuses, delays, and broken promises is simply unacceptable.
Now, to top it all off, the main zip has completely failed, leaving me stranded in the middle of nowhere with luggage that couldn't even be closed properly. The one thing a travel bag absolutely must do is survive travel, and this one couldn't even manage that.
The worst part is that I own two of these bags, which means I'm now stuck with hundreds of dollars worth of unreliable luggage that I no longer trust.
This company seems far more interested in selling expensive bags than standing behind them when they inevitably fail. The build quality is unacceptable, the workmanship is poor, and the after-sales service has been nothing short of disgraceful.
I would never buy from this company again, and I strongly advise anyone considering one of these bags to look elsewhere.
I have used the 140l version for several remote trips in Alaska, and the bag still looks new. It is waterproof, and easy to pack with a huge opening (unlike yeti WP short zipper. Easy to navigate airports with the super tough wheels, it remains unscathed by ground crew and airport conveyors, which may be the biggest achievement, after having so many bags destroyed by airlines.
unfortunately, I ordered the incorrect handlebar mount for this bag, so I will have to defer using it. However, it appears to suit by needs for bike touring as it's very similar to my partner's which he has used for 10 years.
No issues installing this mount. Directions were straight forward and supplied tools were adequate. Great design and quality. Great purchase. Ortlieb has never let me down.
Hi contacted customer support to find the correct buckle for my 9l handbar bag. They recommended the wrong type. Very disappointed in customer service. I felt my request was clear and should have been guided to the correct part #.
Ordered a replacement strap for ultimate 6 compact handlebar bag but the holes are too small to fit on bsg clips
Tried mounting my regular pickleball bag to my bike rack but is just too bulky and unstable.
The Back Roller Bag 20l holds 2 paddles. Shoes, knee braces, water bottle easily with plenty of room for assorted other gear.
Have a 2.1 and 3.1 bag. The 2.1 is easy to put on and off the rack. Had to purchase the adapter for the 3.1 so it fit my rack.
Both work well but the 3.1 system is a better fit for me.
Great bags with nice internal pouches for sunscreen, valuables and tools.
There are less expensive options out there but for a few dollars more these were a nice quality pannier.
Ideal for transporting camera gear onto zodiac boats when out photographing wildlife. The too opening keeps equipment dry from below while also providing quick and easy access to the gear!
Shipping returns are not free and you do not receive the sales tax on items returned.
Item was returned. Annoying length of time to process the credit. Poor availability of spare parts.
I bought one of these great front baskets for each of my bikes, and they work so well! Waterproof, roomy, stable, easy to pop on and off, good handle… I bought them at a local bike shop on sale at the end of the season (a bonus)!
Great organization tool that protects my laptop, makes it easy to find everything, and move without friction between home and the office.
Nothing more needs to be said about the outstanding quality and durability of the Back Roller. It's legendary.
Buy once, cry once.
